Vic: Security guards planned strike could jeopardise AFL finals

A security guards union is claiming the AFL finals could be put in jeopardy by planned
industrial action.

About 500 guards from security company MSS .. who staff venues like the Melbourne Cricket
Ground .. are campaigning for a pay rise above the current hourly rate of 16 dollars-12.

LHMU security state secretary JESS WALSH says after six months of negotiations MSS
is refusing to pay up and guards have been left with no option but to strike.

Ms WALSH says contractors are putting guards and the public in danger by ignoring crowd
control ratios and failing to provide proper training and meet health and safety laws.

The application to take industrial action will be filed with Fair Work Australia today
and the strikes are planned to begin next month.
