Lanus beats San Lorenzo 2-0 in Argentina

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — Gonzalo Castillejos and Silvio Romero scored in the second half as Lanus earned a 2-0 home win over San Lorenzo on Saturday to move into third place in the Argentine Apertura football championship.

Castillejos scored in the 54th minute and Romero converted a penalty in the 62nd for Lanus, which trails leader Estudiantes by seven points.

San Lorenzo's title hopes are fading following a third straight defeat without scoring.

Also Saturday, Huracan drew 1-1 with All Boys, while defending champion Argentinos Juniors and Godoy Cruz finished scoreless and Newell's Old Boys drew 1-1 with Quilmes.

Estudiantes took a five-point lead atop the table with a 2-0 win over Olimpo on Friday and Arsenal is second after beating Banfield 1-0.

On Sunday, Independiente plays Racing Club, Velez Sarsfield takes on Colon and Tigre meets Boca Juniors. River Plate hosts Gimnasia on Monday.

Castillejos gave Lanus the lead over San Lorenzo after a corner dribbled across the six yard (meter) box for the striker to make a close-range finish.

San Lorenzo defender Jose Palomino tripped Romero in the box just after the hour mark and Romero sent Pablo Migliore the wrong way from the spot to extend the lead.

Elsewhere, reigning champion Argentinos Juniors drew 0-0 with Godoy Cruz to end a two-game winning streak and stay in the bottom half of the table. Argentinos went seven matches without a win at the start of its title defense.

Earlier Saturday, Jonathan Ferrari gave newly promoted All Boys the lead against Huracan in the 76th, but Dario Soplan equalized in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

Both clubs remain in the bottom half of the standings.

In the day's late match, Mauro Formica scored in the 30th minute for Newell's against Quilmes, before Danilo Gerlo prodded in the equalizer in the 60th.

Newell's defender Rolando Schiavi was sent off after receiving his second yellow card just before the final whistle.

The point moved Newell's into a share of fourth place with Velez Sarsfield. Quilmes improved a couple of spots to 17th.
