SA: Tangled dolphin to be freed tomorrow

Rescuers will tomorrow try to free a young dolphin tangled in fishing line in Adelaide's
Port River.

The 10-month-old dolphin, named Jumper, was sighted yesterday with about 1.5m of line
trailing from her pectoral fin.

Australian Dolphin Research Foundation biologist MIKE BOSSLEY says the dolphin is distressed
by her ordeal, as is the animals's mother Crinkletop.

The mother is keeping close watch after losing another baby two years ago.

Dr BOSSLEY says an experienced commercial fisher is needed to catch Jumper to untangle
her but none are available until tomorrow morning.

A rescue effort would involve up to 20 people, including members of the water police,
RSPCA and National Parks and Wildlife.

Dr BOSSLEY says a second dolphin in the Port River is tangled in a fishing line, won't
be freed at this stage.
