Montreal's Tim Wallach had admirers among Cub officials earlyin the spring, but Gary Scott's emergence at third and salaryconsiderations worked to make Wallach an afterthought in the end.
The Cubs and Expos never talked formally about Wallach, butseveral Cub officials talked about him privately as someone who couldbe sought late in spring if Scott failed and Montreal was stillwilling to part with the veteran third baseman.
